Welcome to the website of the Molecular Geo- and Palaeobiology Lab at the Dept. of Earth & Environmental Sciences, Palaeontology & Geobiology of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich.

Geobiology investigates the present and past interactions between geo- and biosphere and the evolution of organisms – processes which have shaped the Earth and its biodiversity. Molecular Paleobiology studies the rates and patterns of evolution, integrating data from the living organisms and the fossil record, primarily using new tools of molecular biology. Such studies promise to reveal the secrets of life, its origin and evolution, and its present and past functions on our planet.

The lab is now on

Our research focusses on the biodiversity and evolution of marine organisms and on the evolution of biomineralisation. For information about current research themes see buttons on the right side.

Funding for our research from the and the Marie-Curie Actions of the European Union is highly acknowledged.
